Tribute to Bob Coupe

Bob Coupe out campaigning in Sevenoaks

It is with great sadness we report the death of Bob Coupe a long standing member of Sevenoaks Liberal Democrats, and before 1987 of the Liberal Party.

Bob and Elaine came to Sevenoaks in the 1970s from the - then - exciting Liberal land of Orpington. He worked as a senior civil servant, so was initially restricted in what he could do in public Behind the scenes Bob was a most respected member who was totally reliable, hard working and enthusiastic. He had an attention to detail which kept all of us on our toes.

When free to do so, Bob and Elaine both stood in local elections, and he served as an Executive member of the local party. When Roger Walshe stood for the Parliamentary seat of Sevenoaks he found Bob a most efficient and supportive Agent. Many of us have found ourselves in streets all over Sevenoaks District, and in far-flung target seats, delivering leaflets and canvassing voters with Bob. He was always helping in campaigns.

Present at Lib Dem meetings and Conferences he was always ready with a well-thought-out and pertinent question!

He and Elaine made members welcome at fund-raising coffee mornings at their home and supported other local events.

Bob will be greatly missed in the local Party, as well as in the local organisations where he gave his energy and talents freely, including Sevenoaks Music Club and The Drive Methodist church.

Bob’s cremation (for family and close friends) is at the Bluebell Woodland Crematorium, Halstead at 10.00am December 6th. The thanksgiving service for his life is at 1.30, on the same day, at The Drive Methodist Church, Sevenoaks.
