Tory Infighting Paralyses Sevenoaks District Council
Next Thursday evening (16th October), Sevenoaks District Council will hold an Extraordinary Meeting to debate a motion of no confidence in the Leader, Conservative Cllr Roddy Hogarth.
The motion has been tabled by former Conservative members who left the group in May, led by the previous Conservative Council Leader, Julia Thornton.
This comes at a critical time. The Council is struggling with a severe shortage of affordable housing, inadequate infrastructure planning, and failing waste collection services. It has an unforgiving timetable to adopt its Local Plan that will shape building and infrastructure development across our district until 2042. And it faces the prospect of Local Government reorganisation that will fundamentally reshape how our communities are governed, and the distribution of assets and liabilities across Kent. These are not minor administrative matters — they will determine the future of our district. Yet the Council appears paralysed by internal divisions whilst these vital issues languish.
The District requires leadership that can engage constructively with local residents, respond to their concerns, and deliver coherent policies for our area's future.
Your Liberal Democrat District Councillors will meet next week to determine how best to vote in the Council's interest and that of our residents.
