Dramatic resignation scenes at STC chamber

We would like to pay tribute to the bravery of the Mayor and his wife in giving up their position and the Conservative Party. Both of us know first hand how hard it is to leave a party which you've worked for over many years, even when you know it has gone badly wrong.

We welcome the opportunity this should give to shine a light on the collapse of services, and the financial meltdown at Swanley Town Council (STC). Nobody can pretend that it's business as usual from now on, or that the Council is doing a good job. The recent elections, in which the Conservatives clung on by one vote in White Oak, made that clear - even before the latest revelations.

To have lost one Chief Executive might have been unfortunate. To have lost two, plus many of the staff, and an employment tribunal decision followed by three Conservative councillors points to something much worse than carelessness.
